On-site Interpretation

Have a professional interpreter come to you

Have a qualified interpreter travel to your medical facility to deliver interpretation in person. CyraCom onsite interpretation is available in many US cities. We partner with you to determine your on-site needs and create a customized solution. Billing is typically by the hour and includes travel time. If on-site interpreters are unavailable in your area, we provide remote phone interpretation in over 250 languages and video interpretation in over 35 languages.

Some conversations may be better in person

If a more personal touch is needed, sometimes on-site interpretation is best. For example, conversations with:

  • Patients receiving sensitive news, such as a terminal diagnosis
  • Those who may struggle to recognize a voice on the phone or a face on the screen is their interpreter (small children, patients with Alzheimer’s or dementia)
  • Multiple participants where a remote interpreter may have difficulty tracking and relaying who is speaking

Qualified interpreters who deliver a professional experience

CyraCom’s on-site interpreters pass a performance assessment with at least a “Level 3 – Professional Working Proficiency” on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) scale, and they are tested on interpreter protocols, ethics, and best practices.

We hire experienced candidates who have a mixture of:

  • At least two years of interpretation experience
  • Professional certification and training
  • A degree in interpretation
  • Experience in relevant areas other than interpretation (e.g. healthcare)

Our American Sign Language interpreters are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and are nationally certified (RID or BEI). Once certified, ASL interpreters maintain their certification through continuing education by completing specific interpretation training courses.

Assessments

Assess your bilingual staff for Section 1557 and Joint Commission Standards

Do you count on bilingual staff to interpret for LEP patients? The Affordable Care Act’s Section 1557 requires staff to be “qualified” and have interpreting listed as part of their official job duties. Joint Commission Standards also require documentation for bilingual employees acting as interpreters. CyraCom’s assessments can vet your employees’ language or interpreter skills, helping to ensure they are qualified to interpret or communicate in their other language competently.
